OUR HISTORY

How SHEbnks came to be

In 2015, led by the DCA Academy, Miss.Africa digital Program was launched. This program;

  • Serves as a DotconnectAfrica Group trust’s corporate social responsibility program.

  • Target young women in Africa.

  • Increase their personal involvement in early technology use and adoption.

  • Improve their digital self-awareness and empowerment.

  • Seeks to bridge the economic divide through employment and entrepreneurship.

The progress

After Miss.Africa digital Program launched, it bore a fruit known as the annual Seed Fund Award program. The award program:

  • Provides financial support to women and girls in Africa

  • It enables the winners to launch or expand their own initiatives and increase their digital opportunities.

It was after these establishments that we saw fit to expand and completely engage in closing the financial gender gap by introducing SHEbnks

Problem

Worldwide, women’s access to finance is disproportionately low. According to International Monetary Fund, In sub-Saharan Africa, only 37 percent of women have access to banking services compared to men. This gap has widened the escalating economic divide across Africa.

Solution

  • As of 2020, we have awarded and documented our financial inclusion program in 12 African Countries.

  • We have disbursed to over 3000 participants

  • Hundreds of girls and women have benefited their  constituencies through tech-enabled solutions.

  • Currently, we aim to make SHEbnks a proven solution to women’s financial inclusion.
